Rosa Gill is a passionate advocate working to ensure that all students have access to a quality education so that they may reach their highest potential.
Having been a resident of Wake County her entire life and a graduate of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), she understands the importance of having access to a great public education. Rosa has spent her entire adult life working to improve educational opportunities for all children. She began her career as a high school mathematics teacher at Garner High School and Enloe High School. She immersed herself into the integration and merger of WCPSS and the Raleigh City Public School System to ensure that fair and equitable policies were at the forefront of all discussions.
Rosa was elected to three consecutive four-year terms on the Wake County Board of Education. During her time on the Board, members dealt with issues involving busing, inadequate school facilities, explosive school population growth, diversity, equity, and inadequate funding. As Chair of the board, Rosa worked tirelessly with other board members to set bold goals to ensure that every school in the county was a great school and that all children had a safe, attractive learning environment. Together, they led WCPSS to become the model school system that other districts wanted to emulate. In 2009, she left the Wake County Board of Education to continue her advocacy at the state level.
Representative (Rep) Rosa Gill is currently serving her 5th term in the North Carolina General Assembly as a member of the NC House of Representatives. In 2009, she was appointed by former Governor Beverly Perdue to complete the unexpired term of Rep. Dan Blue. During her ten years in the General Assembly, Rep. Gill has continued to work diligently on education issues that improve access to educational opportunities for all children. She serves on the following committees: Appropriations; Appropriations Education; Education K-12; Education-Community Colleges; House Select Committee on School Safety; Insurance; Pensions & Retirement as well as Judiciary. As the immediate past co-chair of the Wake County Legislative Delegation, Rep. Gill worked very closely with the WCPSS, Wake Technical Community College and the twelve municipalities to push forward their legislative agendas.
Representative Rosa Gill and her husband Jimmie are the proud parents of two adult daughters: Angie Diggs and Natalie Oliver and grandparents of Alexis and Darren Oliver, all of whom are graduates or current students of WCPSS.
