Throughout her career, and now as the CEO and Executive Director of the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education, Ann Rollins has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to education, literacy, health, and community service.
In addition to providing exceptional leadership for the Poe Center over the past 10 years, Ann was also a Microbiologist in the Pathology Department at WakeMed, where she recently retired after 40 years.
Inspired by her children, Ann Rollins spent many years serving the Wake County Public School System in many different capacities. As administrator of the Partnership for Educational Success and the Parent Liaison programs, she identified, coordinated, and implemented programs that linked families, the community, and the schools to help strengthen student success. Her passion for community engagement was also instrumental as administrator for MentorWake, when she oversaw all aspects of program operations including the selecting of students, recruitment, screening, training, and support of volunteer mentors, and the matching of volunteer mentors to referred students.
“I wanted to be part of their public school experience.”
Through her work with Wake County PTAs, Ann inspired community collaboration in support of public education. She served as President at Joyner Elementary, Daniels Middle School, and Broughton High School, where her children attended school. From 1997 until 2020, she served on the Wake County PTA Council, as President and Chair of the Parent Involvement Committee. During her time on the PTA Council, they collaborated with the local Chambers and the PTAs to create the first Family Involvement Policy for WCPSS, which aligned with the National PTA’s policy and is still part of the Board of Education policies today.
Her leadership roles expanded to include the WakeEd Partnership Board of Directors, the Executive Board of the Friends of Wake County, the first School Assignment Committee, the Wake County Nurse Family Partnership Community Advisory Board, the North Carolina PTA Board of Managers, the Friends of the Children at WakeMed, and WCPSS School-To-Career Program Career Advisory Teams (CAT), among others.
Ann’s commitment to rallying the community around our children, their health, and their education, continues to make a difference in Wake County. She currently serves as a member of the Cary Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, Wake County Human Service Board, and she serves as Co-Chair of the Wake County Public Health Committee. She is Vice Chair of the Wake County School Health Advisory Council, a member of the Raleigh Professional Women’s Forum, and Deacon at First Baptist Church.
Ann was awarded the Faye Miller Distinguished Service Award from the Poe Center for Health Education, a Wake County Public School System Employee Excellence Award, special recognition from Superintendent Bill McNeal for service and commitment to the children and families in WCPSS, Volunteer of the year at Joyner Elementary and Daniels Middle School, and the WakeMed Circle of Quality Service Award.
Ann is a graduate from Lenoir-Rhyne College (now University) with a BS in Biology. Ann also has her Nonprofit Management Certificate from Duke University. Ann is a member of the NC Association of Fundraising Professionals as well as the Triangle Chapter of AFP.
Ann is married to Tom Rollins and they have three married children: Charlotte, Michelle and Matthew, all of whom are WCPSS graduates. They have a granddaughter and a grandson and another grandbaby on the way!
